How Your Membership Supports The Community

Exhibition:

The exhibition and promotion of Latino Cinema in San Diego County depends on your support. With your membership you get direct access to Cinema en tu Idioma, a monthly showcase of Spanish-language cinema, Open Screenings with local filmmakers, !Cine Club , a monthly screening in North County; and of course, the outstanding annual San Diego Latino Film Festival.

Thanks to supporters like you, San Diego Latino Film Festival is one of the largest and well-respected Latino film festivals in the country. Since 1994, over 120,000 people have attended with 9,200 youth having participated in the festival, and an overall premeire of 1,000 films.

Youth Media:

The San Diego Latino Film Festival is a fundraiser to assist MEDIA ARTS CENTER SAN DIEGO with the ability to work all year long with teens, your support is necessary to keep these community based after school programs in operation. The Teen Producers Project is a program geared toward teaching underserved youth how to operate film equipment in order for them to creatively tell the community stories that are usually glossed over by mainstream media.

In just five years, this project has been adopted by many low-income housing complexes in San Diego, which have produced over 200 short films and documentaries in their communities.

Filmmaker Resources:

MEDIA ARTS CENTER SAN DIEGO nurtures and supports local media artists working in film, video, audio, and computer-based multimedia. MEDIA ARTS CENTER SAN DIEGO provides a forum for San Diego county media artists through regular screenings, educational outreach, distribution, film festivals, production and technical assistance, scholarships, and fiscal sponsorships.

Through its fiscal sponsorship program, MEDIA ARTS CENTER SAN DIEGO has helped over 20 local media artists raise over $100,000 for their film projects, and hired more than 50 local media artists to teach film & video workshops. Similar to "open mic" night, our microcinema is host to monthly screenings created by local filmmakers.
