Member Appreciation Screening 2009
Thank you for your continued support!

March 16, 2009  -  7:30 PM

MEDIA ARTS CENTER SAN DIEGO producer of the SAN DIEGO LATINO FILM FESTIVAL depends upon the generous support of its membership.  Membership funds support the annual San Diego Latino Film Festival as well as our 501(c)(3) non-profit organization's other exhibition and educational programs, such as the incredibly successful Teen Producers Project, Tu Voz TV, Digital Story Station, Frontera Filmmakers, Digital Cinema Showcase at the San Diego Public Libraryand other year round programs.

This year, the organization is thrilled to show its appreciation for its members with a special one-time screening of Rudo y Cursi on March 16th.  This new film starring Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna will NOT be screened to the general public attending the festival.  A true benefit for our membership!

Recently screened at Sundance Film Festival, 2009 “Rudo y Cursi” treat us to the star-studded performances of Diego Luna, Gael Garcia Bernal, and Guillermo Francella, with engaging moments of drama and comedy. In the Mexican countryside, two brothers, Tato (Gael García Bernal) and Beto (Diego Luna) work a banana plantation, and on weekends play as attacker and goalie on their soccer team. A talent scout, Batuta (Guillermo Francella) offers one brother, Tato “Cursi”, the chance to play on a first division team; and Beto “Rudo” also soon lands a soccer deal. Despite good intentions, the brothers’ constant recklessness might cost them their newly-gained careers. Filmwriter and director, Carlos Cuarón (Alfonso’s brother and co-writer of Y Tu Mamá También) depicts the vivid contrasts of Mexico’s lifestyles and landscapes. As the brothers’ actions are reflected through soccer’s passion, its triumphant rewards and dismal failures, Cuarón let’s us see the surreal lifestyle of soccer stars, and the pitfalls that accompany these brothers.
