Shirley Russell is a Lincoln native who was not satisfied with the summer reading programs in the early 2000s so she came up with the idea for "Books in the Courtyard." ; The event is designed to promote early literacy skills and instill a love of reading in young people by giving them their very own brand new book to keep.
Kara is a student at Lincoln High School and has participated in the Regional Occupation Program. ; This story is about her experience in ROP and how teachers there had new expectations for her.
