JEWISH LATINO SHOWCASE

In recent years, Jewish Latino films are getting their due as both feature films and documentaries explore the fusion of these two cultures. From light hearted comedies to serious documentaries in search of cultural identity, these films bring to light the lives of Jewish Latinos in the Americas and themes of multiculturalism in today’s society.

Films included in this showcase are the following:

El Brindis - A woman journeys from her home in Mexico to be reunited with her Chilean father.

Hacer Patria- Co-Presented by San Diego Jewish Film Festival - Director David Blaustein turns his camera on his mother, cousins, aunts and uncles as they retrace the steps of their Jewish ancestors, who fled Europe in the 1920's for a better life in Argentina.

Laberintos de la Memoria - a lovingly hand-made documentary from Guita Schyfter (Novia que te vea) that examines the search for identity and origin in two parallel stories.

Cara de Queso - Legendary actor Juan Manuel Tenuta, is surrounded by some of Argentina’s best talent in this hilarious summer romp through an idyllic Jewish country club.

El Pallasso i el Führer - Scheduled to perform at a birthday party for a head of state, Charlie Rivel - "the Greatest Clown in the World" - finds life turned upside down when he's caught up in wartime intrigue. The politician turns out to be Adolf Hitler, and his co-performers include a Gestapo agent and a very anxious stranger. Eduard Cortés deftly interweaves humor with layers of intrigue.
