In 2005, San Diego film critic Greg Muskewitz died of cancer at the age of 23.  But his memory and energetic enthusiasm will live on through The Greg Muskewitz Scholarship to be awarded annually to young filmmakers in the Media Arts Center San Diego’s Teen Producers Project who display not only a passion and talent for film but an interest in making their communities a better place, two things Greg always championed.

When Greg got excited about a film – which happened quite often – his speech would rapidly increase and he would try to catch his breath like someone in the midst of an asthma attack.  That enthusiasm, along with a big smile, was something he brought to everything.  He began his writing career at 15 as a film critic for his high school paper.  His reviews can be found at efilmcritic.com and rottentomatoes.com.  Among his all time favorite films were Lost Highway, Manhattan and Dr. Strangelove.  He was the youngest member of the San Diego Film Critic’s Society and he’d love to campaign for his favorite films and rally against the ones he hated at voting time.

He is dearly missed by his family and multitudes of friends who will always keep his memory alive and his smile in our hearts.
