To maximize your creation time at the digital story station, we suggest that you be prepared to begin storytelling by having the following items prepared (some items may not apply to your digital story):
1 Write your narrative (200 words or less)
2 Scan your photographs or if already in a digital format, have them on a travel drive or CD to easily import
(10-20 images should be plenty)
3 Search the Internet to find creative commons or royalty-free music appropriate for your story
At the Digital Story Station, you'll scan photos, record your narration, add music in the background, add titles, and then make a DVD of the final digital story. Choose a method for creating your digital story according to how much time you can spend at the station and the materials you will bring.
Direct to Camera Recorded Interview (Basic)
This is the most basic option for creating your digital story. You can record yourself telling your stories straight into the camera. This is the best option if you do not have more than one hour, no music and less than ten photos.
Slideshow
If you bring more than 10 photographs and/or music, creating a slideshow is the best option for you. You can also record a voice-over that will accompany your slideshow of photographs. You will need to spend at least two hours at the station.
Mini-Movie (Advanced)
This is the most advance option to create your digital story. This option includes a recorded interview or voice-over, photographs, and music. You can also import old home movies and create titles here. In the end, you will edit these elements together to create your digital story. You will need to spend at least 4 hours at the station. You will also need to schedule more than one appointment.

USING CREATIVE ELEMENTS
You are only allowed to use creative elements, such as photos, music and videos, that you have personally created or have written permission to use. Understanding copyright laws, creative commons and royalty free elements can be confusing. Our suggestion is that when in doubt don’t use anything that is not yours to begin with.
Please review the two documents below to build an initial understanding of using creative elements. We encourage you to seek out a greater understanding on your own.
