Did you know... that the SAN DIEGO LATINO FILM FESTIVAL is a fund-raising event to help the 501(c)(3) non-profit MEDIA ARTS CENTER SAN DIEGO accomplish its mission?
Many people think that the festival is a for-profit event which makes a "Ton of money". In reality, corporations and grants underwrite about 50% of the festival with an additional 50% coming from direct sales of film and event tickets, merchandise purchases, memberships, and donations. All funds raised go back into the production of the festival or get passed on to help cover the costs of running the MEDIA ARTS CENTER SAN DIEGO, it's seven 15-week sessions of the Teen Producers Project, year-round exhibition of films, quarterly media maker workshops, and monthly Open Screening Night.
As a representative of MEDIA ARTS CENTER SAN DIEGO during your work as a volunteer or intern, we ask that you take the time to watch the general information films on MEDIA ARTS CENTER SAN DIEGO and SAN DIEGO LATINO FILM FESTIVAL so that you can understand who we are and what we are about. With this information, you can educate the general public on who we are, which not only lends credibility to the unpaid work you are doing but also helps these important media literacy programs which help correct the misinformation about our organization and the important work that we do here in the greater San Diego region.
